Passenger Regulations

TPM believes passenger cooperation is a key factor in helping it to achieve its stated goals of optimal punctuality and efficiency. Observance of some simple rules is indubitably an essential factor when it comes to reducing inconveniences and enhancing the passenger’s journey experience.

Forbidden

  • Enter or exit the bus other than in those places specifically indicated for these purposes
  • Get on the bus when it displays the ‘full’ sign
  • Talk to the driver or distract any of the service staff in the carrying out of their duties
  • Leave any part of the bus dirty or damage or remove any of the vehicle’s materials, parts and/or equipment
  • Occupy more than one place, obstruct the entrances/exits or stand on the rear platform when there are free seats or standing room in the middle of the bus
  • Spit or smoke inside the bus
  • Lean or throw objects of any kind out of the windows
  • Take on the bus loaded rifles, dangerous objects and/or objects that are dirty or that might soil other passengers or cause them any other inconvenience
  • Get on the bus while under the influence of alcohol or other substances
  • Travel with dogs or other animals, except for those for which specific rules apply: guide dogs for the blind, hunting dogs and small dogs
  • Distribute any kind of materials, objects, leaflets or publications for advertising purposes or enter into any kind of trade; neither shall passengers hand out written documents, brochures, posters or other items, even for charitable purposes
  • Get on the bus without a valid ticket, travelcard or identification pass; travel with an expired or unrecognisable card or ticket; with a ticket or other travel document that has not been date-and-time stamped in the machine or which has been altered or used at a time or day or week or month other than that indicated by the document itself, not even for one additional journey to those indicated by the travel document
  • Use the safety exits and devices for any other purpose than that indicated.

General Rules of Transport

Children:

  • Children over one meter tall must each pay a single adult fare
  • One child under one meter tall accompanied by an adult with a ticket can travel without a ticket on condition that he/she does not occupy a seat, however, any additional children must buy and travel with a valid ticket

Cartons & Packages:

  • Passengers are allowed to carry cartons/packages by hand on both the urban and the suburban bus routes
  • Passengers may carry up to a maximum of two cartons/packages each
  • Cartons measuring no more than 50x30x25cm can be transported free of charge
  • Passengers may transport up to two cartons/packages measuring no more than 90cm, even on one side only, on condition they buy an ordinary ticket for each carton/package
  • The transportation of cartons/packages with sharp edges, dangerous corners or points or that contain flammable and/or explosive materials, corrosive acids or dirty or strong-smelling materials is strictly forbidden
  • The transportation of chests, trunks, bulky sacks, cases or other objects that are clearly not part of a passenger’s ordinary baggage is strictly forbidden
  • Cartons must be placed on the floor and should not obstruct passenger movement or cause inconvenience or damage to any other persons or the vehicle

Exceptions

  • Musical instruments: free transportation of one sole instrument, either uncovered or in a case, on condition that this does not exceed the size of a guitar carried in a rigid case measuring 112x47x20cm
  • Skis: one pair of skis per passenger only on condition the passenger buys an ordinary ticket
  • Children’s pushchairs: children’s pushchairs can be taken on board free of charge as long as these are folded up
  • Shopping trolleys: one shopping trolley per ticketed passenger
  • Fishing rods: one fishing rod case per passenger can be transported free of charge on condition it measures no more than 1.50m in height and 10cm in diameter
  • Hunting rifles: the free transportation of one hunting rifle is permitted on condition that it is unloaded and kept in its case or carried on the shoulder of the passenger who must be in possession of a valid hunting license

Animal transportation rules

  • Pets only may travel on the public transport vehicles operating in the City of Monza; pets travel free of charge.
  • Pets must always be accompanied by their owner or someone delegated by owner to accompany the animal; those accompanying the pet must ensure the animal does not leave a mess, defecate, create a disturbance or inflict damage on any other passenger or to the vehicle.
  • Dogs must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle, while the owner/delegate must be equipped with the means to remove and clean any mess or feces the dog may leave. That rule does not apply to trained guide dogs for the visually or hearing-impaired.
  • Where requested by the driver or a passenger, guide dogs for the visually and hearing-impaired must wear a muzzle (Law 60 of 08/02/2006).
  • No more than two dogs per person are allowed to travel.
  • Any other kind of animal must be transported in a special transportation carrier (e.g. cases for cats and rabbits, cages for rodents and birds) that prevent the animal/s from interfering with or annoying other passengers; such animals must never be released inside the vehicle. The carriers must be closed or covered to prevent causing stress to the transported animal and to ensure its wellbeing.
  • No more than two pet carriers per person are allowed.
  • maximum number allowed is:
    - 3 (three) dogs per vehicle in non-peak hours ( from 8.30am to 12.30pm – from 14.30 to 17.00 and from 19.00 to the end of the service)
    - 1 (one) dog per vehicle at rush hour ( from 6.30am to 8.30am -  from 12.30pm to 14.30 and from 17.00 to 19.00).
  • Anyone accompanying a dog/s or those who carry animals in containers will be obliged to pay any damages that might be caused to people or the vehicle.

Complaints

In the event of a complaint, the passenger should notify TPM in one of the following ways:

  • use the online form
  • pre-printed form obtainable from the bus driver, the car park toll booths or the company’s offices

The passenger must present all the facts of the event clearly, supplying all the information needed by TPM to reconstruct the matter (e.g., bus route, number or number plate, date and time of the fact, bus stop), as well as their own postal address and personal information.
